Are You Building Your Kingdom — or His?

We all build kingdoms. Businesses, belief systems, ways of defining success. The unsettling part isn't that they look wrong — sometimes they look completely right, and still aren't God's way.

Proverbs puts it bluntly: "There is a way that seems right to a person, but in the end it leads to destruction."

Two prophets show us exactly what this looks like in practice.

Jonah heard God clearly. Told to go to Nineveh, he ran instead — because he wanted his own version of justice, not God's mercy. When the city repented and judgement didn't come, he got angry. A prophet, furious that revival happened.

Daniel served under the king who destroyed his homeland. Yet when delivering hard prophetic words, his posture was completely different: "King, I wish this word was for your enemies, not for you." He carried truth without losing compassion.

Same calling. Same access to God's voice. Completely different hearts.

What This Reveals Under Pressure

Business exposes which kingdom you're really building. When pressure hits — do you control, defend, force outcomes? Or do you trust?

As Steve Backlund says: "I am saved when I believe in Jesus. But I am transformed when I believe like Jesus."

Hearing God's voice was never primarily about information. It's about transformation — letting His nature become stronger than our instincts.

The Question Worth Sitting With

Where are you defending being right more than becoming like Jesus? What would change if you simply prayed — Your kingdom come, Your will be done, not mine?
