Go Find Your Stone: Hearing God and Facing Giants in Business
A few nights ago I dreamt I was hosting Kris Vallotton here in Australia. People were coming forward for prayer, prophetic words, hand-picked books and small smooth stones.
Everyone had been told beforehand to go and find their own stone. About half had. The other half came forward empty-handed, and because we had spares, we started handing them out. I quickly realised we'd created a problem. So I stopped and said, "You know what's required. Go and find your stone. I'm not going to find it for you." Most of them got up and went searching.
Some Things God Won't Hand You Through Someone Else
There are things God wants to put in our hands: words, strategies, revelation and direction. But some of them He wants us to search out with Him.
In 1 Samuel 17, before David faced Goliath, he went down to the brook and chose five smooth stones. Nobody picked them for him.
It's easy to become dependent on someone else's revelation. We want the prophet, the coach or the pastor to tell us what's next. Those voices are gifts. But a word you've wrestled through with God yourself becomes something you can fight with.
Take Off Saul's Armour
Saul tried to dress David in his own armour. David said he couldn't go in it because he hadn't tested it. Saul's armour wasn't bad. It just wasn't David's.
Christian entrepreneurs fall into the same trap. We see someone else's strategy, blueprint or even their way of hearing God, and start wearing it. But God had been training David with a sling long before Goliath appeared. The weapon for your next giant may already be forming in your hands.
Hidden For You
Proverbs 25:2 says it is the glory of God to conceal a matter, and the glory of kings to search it out. God isn't hiding things from you. He's hiding them for you. Searching teaches you His voice, builds discernment and gives you history with Him.
The Promise Doesn't Remove the Pursuit
Faith hears God, picks up what He has provided and runs toward the assignment. The promise doesn't remove the pursuit. It gives you courage for it.
Business rarely gives you one giant. Cash flow, fear, leadership, capacity. Every giant you face with God builds something in you for the next one.
They Are Bread For Us
When Israel saw giants in the promised land, Joshua and Caleb said, "Do not fear them, they are bread for us" (Numbers 14:9). The giant in front of your business might be the very thing that feeds your next season.
You Don't Search Alone
Responsibility doesn't mean isolation. David had Jonathan and his mighty men. We all need people who pray with us and help us hear clearly. But nobody can build your history with God for you.
So ask Him this week: what's my stone?
