Stop treating your desires like a red flag
God Trusts You More Than You Think
Do you second-guess your desires? Not just your decisions — the actual wanting itself. If you've ever caught yourself thinking "I don't want my flesh to win" before you've even worked out what you want, you're not alone. Most Christian business leaders carry this quiet fear. And it sounds humble. But often, it's just fear wearing a spiritual outfit.
The God-with-a-clipboard problem
A lot of us act like God is distant — watching every decision from a distance, waiting for us to pick wrong so He can say "that wasn't it." That's not who He is. He's a good Father. He's for you. And He wants good things for you — not just what you need to survive, but what you actually desire.
Psalm 37:4 says delight yourself in the Lord and He'll give you the desires of your heart. That's not a vending-machine verse. It means that when you're close to God, your heart starts coming alive in ways that reflect His. You're not standing outside Him trying to decode a hidden plan. You're joined to Him. So when you ask, "is this God's will or my will?" — sometimes the honest answer is both. He's been forming you. Renewing your mind. Shaping what you want. You're allowed to trust that.
The old you already died
Here's where a lot of us get stuck: we keep living like the old self is still in charge. That guy died at the cross. You're a new creation, filled with the Spirit, learning to walk with God — not a powerless person constantly wrestling your flesh into submission. Not every want is selfish. Not every dream is dangerous. Sometimes the desire in your heart isn't a red flag — it's an invitation to build, create, lead, and serve people at a level you haven't yet.
What a good Father actually wants
Imagine you're a parent who's had a great year, and you tell your kid, "give me your Christmas list — I want to know what's in your heart." And your child replies, "not my will but yours be done." You'd say, mate, I love that, but what do you actually want? That's the heart of a good Father. He's not trying to trip you up. He wants your trust — and your actual desires, not a sanitised version of what you think a "good Christian" should want.
Bring it to Him and watch for the fruit
Instead of demanding God make every call for you, bring the desire to Him. Ask Holy Spirit to show you what saying yes actually produces. Does it bring life? Peace? Does it line up with who you're becoming — or does it leave you empty? Sometimes you don't need a dramatic sign. You need perspective.
He's not raising robots. He's raising sons and daughters who can hear Him and carry responsibility. So bring Him the dream you've been sitting on. Don't shame yourself for wanting it. He's already forming you into someone who can carry it well — because God trusts you more than you think.
