What are you inviting into your home?

Inviting God into the places where you live and lead

Praying over your home and workplace is a way to bring your everyday life into conversation with God. You can ask for His peace, seek His wisdom and offer Him the relationships and responsibilities that fill those spaces.

In Houses of Acts Part 2, I share stories of learning to do that. Some began with a simple prayer. Others began with an unexpected phone call or a conversation about a family under pressure. Together, they helped me grow in trust that God cares about the details of our lives.

A home that became a house of refuge

While I was at university in Brisbane, my housemate and I decided to pray over our home. As we prayed, we felt prompted to call it a house of refuge. We did not have a detailed plan for what that would look like.

People began coming who needed somewhere to stay, support through a difficult season and people willing to pray with them. We faced sleepless nights and challenges we had not expected. We also saw people encounter God and begin new journeys of freedom and faith.

A small fellowship group met in our living room. During one gathering, a young man had an encounter with God that helped launch his journey into ministry. That experience stayed with me: a living room can become a significant place in someone's story.

Giving everyday faith a practical expression

In 1 Corinthians 2:4–5, Paul connects his message with a demonstration of the Spirit's power so that people's faith rests in God. That challenges us to consider how the people around us experience the faith we talk about.

For Kingdom leaders, love takes practical forms. It may mean listening carefully to a team member, helping someone through a difficult week, making room for reconciliation or asking whether a person would welcome prayer.

As we go about work and family life, these moments give us opportunities to serve. We can ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom about how to respond, and take the next step with care.

How to begin praying over your home and workplace

Begin with a room or a part of your day that is already familiar. Thank God for the people who spend time there. Ask for peace in your conversations, wisdom in your decisions and help to notice needs you may have overlooked.

You might pray at the kitchen table before everyone leaves for the day, or quietly at your desk before work begins. If others would like to join you, make space for them to share what they are carrying and pray together.

Stay attentive afterwards. Is there someone you need to check in on? A conversation you need to have? A practical act of kindness you can offer? Let your prayer shape the way you treat people throughout the week.

Reflection and prayer

Who is already in your everyday world that you could welcome, encourage or offer to pray with this week?

Father, I welcome You into my home and my workplace. Fill these spaces with Your peace. Help me hear Your voice, care for the people around me and respond to what You show me. Give me courage to put Your love into action. Amen.
