Seek First the Kingdom: Building a Business With Eternal Impact

Scripture
"Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." — Matthew 6:33

Are You Building Success or Kingdom Impact?

What if you’re winning financially but losing sight of why God gave you the opportunity in the first place?

Success can be deceptive.

Growth numbers increase. Revenue improves. Opportunities multiply.

Yet somewhere in the process, it becomes easy to drift from the original purpose and start measuring success by income instead of impact.

In Episode 1 of our interview series with Jonathan Sparks, one question stood out and continues to challenge the way we think about business and leadership:

How much Kingdom impact can this create

Not:

How much money can this make

That question changes everything.

Why Seeking God First Changes the Way You Build

Many people spend their lives asking God to bless what they’re building.

Far fewer stop and ask:

Am I building something worth God blessing

Matthew 6:33 offers a different framework.

Jesus teaches that our first pursuit should not be security, achievement, or even success — but God’s Kingdom and His righteousness.

This doesn’t mean business growth is wrong.

It means business becomes a vehicle rather than the destination.

Profit becomes a tool.

Influence becomes stewardship.

Opportunity becomes assignment.

Purpose Before Profit

When purpose leads, decisions become clearer.

You stop asking:

  • Will this make more money

  • Will this grow faster

  • Will this impress people

And begin asking:

  • Will this serve others well

  • Will this create Kingdom impact

  • Will this honour what God has entrusted to me

God is not looking for perfect plans.

He is looking for surrendered people.

People willing to partner with Him and trust that obedience often creates a greater legacy than ambition alone.

A Simple Reflection Question

Take a moment and ask yourself:

If God audited your goals today would He find a Kingdom assignment or simply a bigger version of your own ambitions

There is no condemnation in the question.

Only invitation.

Invitation to realign.

Invitation to steward well.

Invitation to build something that lasts.

Prayer

Father align my heart with Yours

Help me build what matters

Teach me to steward what You have entrusted to me with wisdom and humility

Use every opportunity to advance Your Kingdom and shape my ambition around Your purpose

Amen
